Thank you to all who visited our Festival of Trees exhibit

Thank you to all who visited our Festival of Trees exhibit. More than 200 people braved the rain to come out and vote for their favorite tree. It was very difficult this year. Many visitors complained about what a hard time they had with voting as all of the trees were spectacular and unique. There were 17 trees in the competition this year. Three new entries that had not participated in the past. Special thanks to the Deep River Chester Lions Club who have participated for years but could not it this year and sent a donation. We are very grateful and hope to have you back next year. There were activities and games for the children and special treats for those children who found the pickles in the trees.

Here are your winners:

Winthrop Cemetery Association came in first in both the Best Theme and Most Creative Categories and had the most votes overall to win the BEST OF SHOW.

WINTHROP CEMETERY ASSOCIATION

A newcomer this year the United Scandinavian Society took first place for Most Traditional in the Adult category.  It also placed second in the Best Theme category and took third place for Most Creative.

Shoreline Civil War Roundtable

The Nest – A Little Compassion

These newcomers took third and fourth place in the Best Theme Categories. So much research went into the civil War tree that listed every Deep River “boy” who served in the Civil War.

  DR Garden Club

DR Merchants Association

A winner every year the Deep River Garden Club decorated their tree with plants and natural elements from around the world and created a little booklet for people to take home. The Deep River Merchants produced this shopper with gifts from all of the merchants. The Garden Club took fourth place in the most Traditional Category and the Merchants fourth place in the Most Creative category.

While these trees took home ribbons all of the trees could have been winners. The DR Ambulance Tree with its banner “We Save Lives!”, the DR Fire Dept tree with badges from around the world protecting lives and homes and the American Legion tree with photos of Deep River men serving their country around the world. Ray Hayes’ Pay 4ward tree with its happy sailboats taking returning vets for a sail to help combat PTSD. They touched your heart. Not to mention the most unusual tree created by the Pandemonium Rainforest Project with tropical bird feathers and an iguana. The children were fascinated by this entry. I can’t wait to see what they come up with next year.

Congratulations to everyone!

Deep River Junior Ancients won first place for Best Theme in the youth division also took 4th place for Most Creative and Most Traditional

Deep River Congregational Church Green Team and Sunday School won first place for their Creativity with snowmen made from recycled K-cups. Parents and members have been saving their K-cups for weeks for the children.

Welcome Back Church Street Child Care who took Best of Show two years ago. They did not participate last year but produced this gorgeous tree with hand-made ornaments by the children. They took second place in both the Most Traditional and Most Creative categories. They also hid a pickle in the tree and left candy treats for the children who found it.
