Deep River Community Coming Together to Help During Covid-19.

A Mission Trip in Our Own Back Yard

The Deep River Congregational Church sponsors a Mission Trip every summer to a location that needs help. The Teen Issues class consisting of teens from 9th to 12th grade and their councilors had raised money to travel to North Carolina this summer. The plan was to take a weeklong trip and help rebuild storm-damaged homes. COVID-19 put an end to those plans. However, just because they were unable to travel didn’t mean they couldn’t help in their own community. The group has connected with Deep River Historical Society and others to accomplish needed chores. The teens sanded and painted the front porch of the Stone House and other chores around the property. This is a huge boost as due to COVID 19 we missed the Valley Warriors in the Community Day this past spring. We are grateful to the church and the kids for their help and energy!

Same Bench, New Look!

The bench on the front porch of the Stone House was getting pretty shaky. Peter Staye took the bench home to work on and the results are amazing. Using imported South African Mahogany, he literally remade the bench! Peter and Marian supplied all of the materials for the project. Thank you so much for your generosity and for sharing your time and talent!

Doors that keep our artifacts safe.

It was discovered that anyone entering the Carriage house could access the attic, potentially damaging artifacts without realizing it. New Trustee Bill Nitschke, has created a locked door to protect artifacts stored in the Carriage
House attic. This way visitors will not have access to the attic. Storage in older home is always an issue…especially when the older home is a museum! Bill is currently building shelves in a closet in the Munson Gallery to help increase our storage capability. We are thankful for volunteers who see a need and step in to solve a problem.

We are interested in knowing how people have been helping each other in our community! Please share how someone has made a positive impact on you during this unprecedented time.
