It’s Women’s History Month! Watch Part Two of our Celebrating Women Series!

How appropriate for the second part of our Celebrating Women Series to be posted in March.

Expanding Rights, Expanding Roles, 1950 – 2000 is now available.

Celebrating 100 years of Women’s Achievements

In 1920, the 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution provided women with the right to vote, opening up new avenues for them politically, economically, and socially.

During the Suffrage Centennial Year of 2020, the Chester, Deep River, and Essex Historical Societies have sought to document 100 + years of the women of the three towns.  The second part of our series focuses on the women in our tri-town area who made a difference in the last half of the 20th Century. These women worked and volunteered outside of their homes, raised their families, and contributed to the welfare of the community.

We have reached out to the general public to submit photographs and stories, seeking to expand our collections about women’s history, which often goes undocumented. Due to an overwhelming number of submissions, the project has been divided into three parts. Part 1: Trailblazers in a New Century 1900 – 1950 was posted to our website in November of 2020.  Part 3 will be coming soon!

You still have time. If these videos remind you of someone who should be remembered for her actions, please contact your local historical society and tell her story.
