Billy Winters Author Event

Billy Winters, a Successful Author Event

Author Event March 11th,  Billy Winters: One Man’s Journey to Freedom, is based on a first-hand account of Billy’s perilous journey along the Underground Railroad in 1828 and how he made his home and found freedom in a small New England town.

Thank you all for the wonderful response to our most recent book launch. President of the Society, Jeff Hostetler welcomed  members, friends and visitors from across the state to the event.  Rhonda Forristall, our Curator, spoke about her most recent book entitled Billy Winters detailing some of his hazardous journey and his life in Deep River. When prompted by Rhonda several of the attendees shared stories of growing up on Winter Avenue, a street named after Billy.

Rhonda is continuing to collect stories of the African American families that made their home on Winter Avenue or Mitchell Lane. Please feel free to contact her and share your stories.

Book are $10.00 and available through Amazon.com, Deep River Hardware Store, or by contacting Rhonda Forristall directly at rcforristall@gmail.com.

All proceeds from the book sales will benefit the Deep River Historical Society’s mission to preserve our history and to enrich future generations.
