Native American programs

We are co-sponsoring events with our own Historical Society and the Essex Historical Society along with the Land Trusts from both towns. Come join us on Thursday, Nov. 2 at 7:00 at the Carriage House. 245 Main Street, Deep River.  This program is titled Native Americans of the Connecticut River Valley.  Nicholas Bellatoni, former CT State Archaeologist, will be our guide to Native Indian sites and cultures over the last 11,000 years in the lower CT. River Valley. The evening will include Indian artifact identification and demonstrations of Native Indian life ways.

Also planned for later in the year, is an Archaeology Hike at the Preserve. This hike will commence at the West Preserve parking lot, Ingham Hill Rd. Essex for Saturday, Dec. 2 at 9:00. Bad weather will cancel the event hike.
