Junior Docents

Junior Docents: We are so proud of all of our Juniors, but we especially want to say congratulations to John Voitans who was awarded the Vic Malcarne award this past Memorial Day. John has been volunteering with us for three years and has served as docent and presenter to his peers during the annual elementary school field trips.

We signed on a new Junior this summer. Nate Palumbo is following in his big brother Brayden’s footsteps to become the second Palumbo to join our volunteer staff. Nate is 11 years old and a 6th grade student at DR Elementary School.

We now have four junior docents Brayden Palumbo and Wyatt Cozza are both students at John Winthrop Middle School.

The Juniors have taken two field trips this summer to learn more about our town. First, they followed the ivory trail with curator Rhonda Forristall, from Africa to the Pratt Read & Co. They also found places where they could see the Deep River in town.  On our second trip Trustee and Vice President Cynthia Stannard spoke of the history of the Winthrop Baptist Church, which is the oldest church in town and gave them a behind-the-scenes tour of its foundation.

Trustee and Assistant Curator Kathy Schulz spent time with the boys at the Winthrop Cemetery, which was established in 1750 and identifying the graves of the Revolutionary War veterans and telling their stories.
