DRHS hosts Park and Rec Campers

The DRHS hosted the Park and Rec campers on Thursday July 20th. Campers explored the concept of “Then and Now” with docents from the Society. The Bleach House is the last remaining bleach house in North America. Campers got to walk inside and see how the ivory pieces were placed for bleaching. We also discussed the need to protect elephants today. The “Magic Piano” was again a big hit as each camper got to try to make music without using their hands. The Pratt, Read Player piano was recently refurbished and has a beautiful sound. “Gadgets and more” introduced campers to life before electricity. How did you open a can of beans before electricity? Wheat did people use before deodorant was invented? We also explored life styles with hair dos of the past and present, music and art. It was a busy morning but enjoyed by all. The popsicles for the trip home were a hit as well.
