Deep River Family Day 2016

by | Sep 16, 2016 | News

The Deep River Historical Society will be open on both Saturday and Sunday, September 17 & 18, of Family Day weekend from 10 am to 2 pm. There have been several changes made over the summer and this is your perfect opportunity to stop in to see the new Marine Room. Also in the Carriage House is a special display of Denison Wood Planes, manufactured in Winthrop in the mid 1800’s. This is a interesting story of the Denison family, and their industry with specialty woods from Africa and South America, such as ebony, applewood and ligum vitae.

Wades Country Store will be featuring specialty sandwiches named after the Denison family all day. Don’t miss the  opportunity to visit the Winthrop Cemetery. Take the self guided tour and visit the grave sites of the Denisons and other  important Winthrop families.

On Sunday September 18th the family fun continues. Stop in to the Carriage House to see the wood plane exhibit on your way to the Vintage Baseball Game at Devitt Field which starts at 2 pm. Kids be sure to get your mustache before the game. This game will be played using 1857 rules and equipment. Get a feel for how baseball got started and root for your team.
